Capitalization
Grasswire has a script that will capitalize the first letter of every word but write headlines in correct format anyway: Capitalize the first word, proper nouns and the first word after a colon:
Report: Winter is coming, Stark warns
Boromir expresses concern over planned foot incursion into Mordor
Obituary: Sean Bean, actor
Every letter in an acronym is capitalized: UNICEF, not Unicef
Numbers
Use digits for numbers except in casual uses:
400 horses ate delicious hay
Hundreds of horses enjoyed treat, farmer says
Punctuation
Use single quote marks (inverted commas) for quotes: Man is ‘big fat liar’
For attribution, use colon (:) not dash (–):
Local man ‘big fat Liar’: Wife
Update: Local man’s pants on fire
Do not use periods in abbreviations: US, UN, EU
