Name: UAE is a federation of emirates – Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Al Fujayrah, Ash Shariqah, Dubayy and Umm al-Qaywayn – that merged in 1971.  Ras al-Khaymah joined in 1972.


Government: Each of the seven emirates is ruled by a monarch (emir) who join to form the federal ruling body (Federal Supreme Council).
